Saturday Into Sunday Winter Weather Event Thoughts

Spring begins this Sunday, so it is only fitting we follow the schedule and talk about some snow. There has been plenty of discussion this week about snows and some pretty nice looking snow maps. Generally speaking, I hate end of the winter storms because they tend to underperform. There have been some exceptions, but generally they do not live up to they hype. This time of year, you want snow falling at night, not during the day for max accumulations. The sun in March tends to inhibit accumulations on paved surfaces, but they can still be overcome with higher snowfall rates.

With that, this is a pretty potent storm. Model guidance has been wavering a bit over the past couple days, but I think a nice general snow is headed to the area. As of now, I am anticipating a snow event starting during the overnight hours Saturday Night. Some rain or mix may start off over DE and SNJ but will transition over to all snow. As of now, I think for most of NE MD, SE PA and C NJ through N NJ a general 1-3" of snow will fall with a possibility of a little more if there is some banding that sets up. There will be less the further south and east of the area you go and the higher amounts will be around the 1-95 area back into E PA. NW NJ into NE PA will be in on the order of 2-4" and be all snow with the possibility of some more in banding.

Those are my thoughts for now. In addition, any snow that we do get, will more than likely be well out of the area by Monday morning, so do not get your hopes up on a day off.
