Tornado Watch Further North, To Camden County

SPC's latest watches extend the latest tornado watches further north, to Camden County in NJ. This includes Philadelphia Metro until 2am. Most areas in PA are also covered by a tornado watch as well (exception far NE PA).

There is also a Severe Thunderstorm Warning which stretches from N PA to S PA through state college as one of the intense lines pushes east

A Flash Flood Watch is in effect for the remainder of NJ through 8am tomorrow (exceptions are the coastal areas.

Tornado Watch May Be Extended Further North

The latest Mesoscale Discussion from the Storm Prediction Center leads me to believe that a tornado watch may soon be extended north into Central NJ, around Trenton. This would also include the Philadelphia area. SPC is hedging their bets that the warm front currently located south of the area moves north. We shall see:

MESOSCALE DISCUSSION 1010
NWS STORM PREDICTION CENTER NORMAN OK
0325 PM CDT FRI JUN 01 2012

AREAS AFFECTED...SERN PA...SRN NJ...DE

CONCERNING...SEVERE POTENTIAL...TORNADO WATCH LIKELY

VALID 012025Z - 012130Z

PROBABILITY OF WATCH ISSUANCE...80 PERCENT

SUMMARY...TORNADO THREAT WILL INCREASE ACROSS SERN PA...DE...AND SRN
NJ OVER THE NEXT FEW HOURS.

DISCUSSION...WARM FRONT IS EXPECTED TO ADVANCE SLOWLY NWD ACROSS DE
INTO SERN PA AND SRN NJ. THIS NWD SHIFT WILL ALLOW ONGOING
SUPERCELL ACTIVITY UPSTREAM OVER MD TO SPREAD INTO THE REGION AS
HIGHER THETA-E AIR REPLACES COOLER ELY LOW LEVEL FLOW. SOMEWHAT
STRONGER LOW LEVEL SHEAR ALONG THE WARM FRONT SUGGESTS TORNADO
THREAT MAY BE ENHANCED AS THIS BOUNDARY LIFTS NWD.

Severe Thuderstorms South, Rains North

A potentially dangerous situation is setting up for the southern Mid
Atlantic states this evening and tonight. There Will be multiple lines
of storms that move through, all associated with a frontal boundary
located over West Virginia and Western PA. Areas in Virginia up
through DC/Baltimore and into south central PA will likely see
multiple tornadoes develop. Areas further north and east will
primarily see heavy rains as our air mass is much more stable compared
to the southern Mod Atlantic states. A moderate risk of tornadoes
(30%) exists for areas of Virginia up to DC! A flash flood watch has
been issued further north into Jersey. Expect multiple bands of storms
south / heavy rains north to move through.
