8/23/2011 Hurricane Irene Update

As of this morning, Irene is still on track for a hit on the NC/SC border. Also, it is being shown now to make landfall as a MAJOR hurricane (winds greater than 110mph). Landfall is expected in the overnight hours on Saturday. This hurricane already has a history of knocking out power to 100's of thousands of people and producing hurricane damage in places it has already gone through. making landfall as a MAJOR hurricane will be devastating. The time to start preparing is now. Further down the line, I am worried for our area with the copious amounts of rain we will be getting on top of probably a category 1 or 2 hurricane with winds just short of triple digits. Here is the 5 day progression from this morning:

Hurricane Irene= First of Many

Like a good winter storm, a good hurricane is something fun to track. Anyways, those of us along the east coast have been spared a hurricane hit for a number of years now. Irene, located on the Northern Coast of the Dominican Republic will move to the North of Cuba and through the Bahamas over the next two days. From there, we will then have to watch where it is going to make landfall on the US east coast. As of now, anywhere from S Fla to the Outer Banks are plausible places. More updates to come

Here is the 5 day progression from this evening:
